The first student poster says, "The students of Franklin & Marshall
are not like those of other schools. They are bright, well rounded
young people who care about the city of Lancaster."
(That is extremely arrogant. What makes you better than the
students at Millersville or Elizabethtown? And you don't seem
particularly bright, if you don't mind my saying so.)
He (I assume) goes on to say, "The fact remains, college students
will be college students, and bashing ones of this caliber seems to be
unwarranted when the main charge they are guilty of is caring about
the historic city of Lancaster."
(No, loving Lancaster is not what you were charged with. Why don't
you show some of this "caliber?")
Another student, "....and what the hell do you expect from a bunch of
18 year olds after they've been given the opportunity to drink as much
as they want for free?
(We expect a hell of a lot better.)
A poster named "F&M Student" (clever), says, "I personally think that this
college gives more to the community than it receives. I'd like
to thank all the residents for their nice objections to the students."
(Write a term paper on everything you do for the community.)
A return poster from the last fray says, "I suggest you find a new house
far away from colleges because fraternities at F&M and all across the
country will be here as long as we have colleges."
(I suggest you find a new college far away from Lancaster.)
A new student poster says, "If you are going to live near an airport
you're going to hear planes. What would you expect living next to a
college."
(Some quiet and some respect, that's what your neighbors should expect
and have a right to.)
Another poster says, "Being a 'college kid' is the balance of being
responsible yet at the same time having the ability to be irresponsible."
(Oh yeah, I have those choices as an adult too. It's all in how
you define "irresponsible.")
