This email in (thank you) and I hope its not to late:
The House is scheduled to vote today on drastic funding cuts for PBS, NPR and other public media. The cuts are part of the partisan campaign to both defang and defund public broadcasting.
Your calls and letters to Congress are making a difference. We need your help now to support two amendments that would put the money back IN public broadcasting while taking the politics OUT of the funding process.
In todays Philadelphia Inquirer, there is an article by Dick Polman titled, Religious Democrats aim to close the God gap.It begins:
WASHINGTON Liberals say they believe in God, too.
Its one of the hottest trends in politics today.Prominent Democrats are suddenly quoting from the Bible as John Kerry said recently, I went back and reread the whole New Testament but whats truly striking is the determination of liberal Christians to create an effective religious left.
Thats why Tim Simpson trekked to Washington yesterday.A Presbyterian pastor from Tallahassee, Fla., he wants to counter the power of the religious right, which works in tandem with the Republican Party, and, as he sees it, has taken control of the language of our faith to promote an extreme and divisive political agenda."
HOLZINGER v. HOLZINGER
Tomorrow I am going to post the decision of Judges Orie Melvin and Montemuro in the Superior Court Case of Holzinger v. Holzinger. This case will be appealed to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania by July 5, 2005.
Today, I wanted to give you a brief snippet of what growing up Holzinger was like.My sister sat with my therapist for almost two hours several years ago and the first thing out of her mouth was All our parents have ever done is criticize us.Nothing we ever do is good enough for them.
I wanted to give you one brief example. It was the seventh or eighth grade when I had my first real term paper assignment with footnotes and bibliography and the works. It was also the first time my mother typed a paper for me.I worked hard and was very proud of it.As my mother was pulling the last page out of the typewriter she shook her head sadly. Her daughter had failed her again. Its not very good, she said.A few days later I proudly showed her the red A at the top of the paper. She shook her head sadly again, Who are they hiring at Hempfield these days? she asked.
And so it would go, day in and day out.My parents made it very clear to their children every day that we could never hope to achieve their intellectual superiority and in the ultimate ironic outrage, that we could never achieve their moral superiority either. And by so doing, they thought their criminal secret and their double lives would never be revealed. To the public they became pillars of the community. That is not uncommon. And, they came very, very close to getting away with it.
Much more coming later
Will the Watt & Shand building become a casino? Please check back this weekend when I will look at that and prison abuse and other Lancaster News and a look at the debate over African-American history in the Philadelphia schools. Also, later today at , Oprah reruns the episode in which Tom Cruise, crazy for love, tests the limits of her furniture!
Todays New Era story on Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan, Laid-back Nelson, intense Dylan strut stuff, begins with the sentence, To the delight of many, a couple of walking antiques sauntered into Lancaster Sunday night.Hey!Walking legends. Lets watch that antiques stuff.
WHERES THE NEWS?
Well, the IntelI hasnt posted any articles since last Monday which is hard to believe in this cyber age and I cant imagine their advertisers are too happy.I am still trying to contact the editor, Ray Shaw, and I will keep you informed.
GOOD PUBLIC RELATIONS
According to WGAL-TV this morning, there was a Prostitution Sting in Lancaster over the weekend and eight people were arrested.I have no further information except that when the police need good publicity this or a drug bust is always viewed as a good public relations move. And the police really need some of that now, what with the arrest of the wrong man in the shooting of a 2-year-old and his being beaten in jail and their failure to arrest the correct man. What a mess.
A quick note from one of the lead stories around the country this morning in the Mississippi Burning trial.Harlan Majure, who was the mayor of Philadelphia, Mississippi, in the early 1990s testified in court regarding the Ku Klux Klan, As far as I know its a peaceful organization. How laughable and sad.
HOUSE BILL 1113
In good news, The Pennsylvania House approved a bill this morning that stiffens the penalties for those who murder children. It now goes to the Senate. This is the work of Clifford Spencer of Landisville, whose two-year-old granddaughter, Dixie-Anna Spencer, was murdered, and Representative Katie True.Kudos again to Cliff Spencer.
So, yesterday I said I would post the search strings or what someone types into a search engine to end up on this website. The list below is for the month of June. Im sure Smart is pleased or maybe that was him, twice. This gives me a little chance to talk about housekeeping. The legal work is bringing a lot of people here and I will try to organize it.Holzinger v. Holzinger will be appealed to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and I imagine that will bring even more, so I will try to make that a priority. The incest story and Cortney Frys murder also bring a lot of people and I will organize those as well. Finally, this website does take a long time to load because of the length of this front page (again!) so please be patient until I have time to move items to an inside page.Thank you for reading LIP News.

TELL US MORE
Artie See of www.lookingatlancaster.com has some new Random thoughts posted on his site and he says the following, I apologize to Rick Gray for being so hard on him here and in public forums.Rick, in person you are far more reasonable than what has been presented to the public. Please accept my apologies for misinterpreting your position.Artie, tell us more. What did you two talk about? What did Rick say? What is his position? Are you going to vote for him? Please tell us more!
It is Fathers Day, and by chance I happened upon this Letter to the Editor to the Intell from my father, Charles H. Holzinger that was printed on March 16, 2005, U.S. failing the ethics test.It reads:
Recent revelations about the rendition program of our government in which suspected terrorists are sent to foreign countries for incarceration and interrogation make those Americans ashamed who wish our nation to be a worthy leader in its drive to spread democracy and freedom around the world.
The fact that President Bush personally signed the order giving the CIA the authorization to operate in this way without any supervision is disturbing. There is convincing evidence from prisoners once held under this program that they were beaten and otherwise tortured when jailed in Syria, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Egypt. They were never charged with any crime.
All of this took place with the administrations protestation that it never condoned torture.Indeed only recently President Bush has repeated this position.
A great power that chooses to advocate the need for democracy and freedom to the world needs to be ethical in its own conduct if it hopes to be an effective mentor.
To which I respond, You are a lying, two-faced, arrogant, and disgusting fraud who tortured his own wife and children. You are a complete phony with no ethics whatsoever.Take a look at the state of your family and see if anyone should call you ethical or a mentor about anything.
One of the last things I did with my first therapist was a father test. She asked me a number of questions and wanted me to write down the top five for each one. They were questions such as, What did your father teach you? What values did you learn from your father?Name five of your fathers best qualities, etc.My paper was blank.More later.
SO IM CHANNEL SURFING
Now, Im going to make Gil Smarts day.I once mentioned here that on my traffic reports I get search strings which is what someone typed into a search engine to end up on my website.Well, two people got here because they typed in Gil Smart.Honest.Im going to print the entire list of search strings for the month of June tomorrow.
And being as it is Fathers Day, I was going to give Smart a break until I saw his opening sentence this week, So Im channel-surfing So why did that get me in a huff?Because he started his last weeks column with, So, the guidebook Whats with the So?Are we going to see this every single week because Smart thinks its cool and hip?And Smart is talking about Fox News and their slant towards the current administration and he has the audacity and unmitigated gall to say, And any way you slice it, this is a dangerous state of affairs. For what we get is a nation with blinders on.What we get with the Lancaster Newspapers and the convention center reporting, Gil, is an extremely dangerous state of affairs.Chew on that.
Now, (or maybe I should say So) you know nobody gets under my skin like Smart. But when I saw that search string I decided to try and duplicate it and guess what I found?!.This blogspot by Smart! This is really, really dreadful and maybe the Lancaster Newspapers made him stop. His last post is September of 2003 and he has the audacity to say this, And you can always check the Smart Remarks print archive, updated weekly, if you start to jones.Yeah, thats gonna happen. Finally, there is a picture of his son here and Smart asks, Is he your all-American baby or what? Why, Smart, because hes white?
HAPPY FATHERS DAY
Yes, I have been cranky today.Iapologize.Have a happy Fathers Day.
