FRIDAY NOTES
~ There are way too many Friday notes, so some, such as the recent articles on the convention center and the Intell article Gambling crackdown from Wednesday will be posted over the weekend along with an update on the Cortney Fry case.
~ This email in this morning (please note that because this website is new, I will not print your name if you send me an email. If you want your name printed tell me so. If that policy ever changes I will let you know well in advance), The above link is to an article about a state police trooper who committed suicide while being investigated for child porn. Although what the man did was reprehensible, the article goes beyond the bounds of journalistic decency. The link was to yesterdays New Era article, Trooper knew he was in trouble, and I couldnt agree more. A poster on Talkback said, It reads like a prosecution summation to a jury at the end of a trial to nail every piece of evidence against the defendant. A sick man killed himself here, one who is mourned by friends, family and co-workers, according to the reporter. Tragedy enough to go around. Who cares what the titles of his porn are? It was a dreadful article.
~ Which leads me to question why LNP would publish such an article and yet not cover my lawsuit. Also posted under the above article is this, Ive heard (and believe) the percentage is high that guys who are molested as kids become molesters. Yes, that is true and thats why the topic needs to be discussed. My lawsuit is a legitimate and socially important news story that would sell papers. Why not a word of it in any of the three papers? Is it the F&M connection? Is it me? I had a talk on the phone with Ernie Schreiber, editor of the New Era, and Jon Ferguson, news editor of the Intell, in early January on that topic and I will print their comments soon. Needless to say, it was high entertainment.
~ Obviously the suit is on my mind as oral arguments before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania are this Wednesday. There will be full coverage in LIP News.
~ I received this letter and a subscription form from a LIP I handed out in Lancaster, There are stories in my life too. My dads brother was a perpetrator. The denial and secrecy scarred my life even though I was not the actual victim. Just knowing it has been tolerated at all breaks all trust
it made me so angry. She did include her email address and I let her know about the website and told her a true paper LIP would probably not be printed for quite some time. She emailed me back and that will be in weekend notes. Thank you so much for writing. The abuse cycle just goes on and on until somebody speaks out and breaks it.
~ This is the five month anniversary of this website (yikes and yippie!!) and I would like to thank everyone for reading LIP News. Please check back this weekend.
WEDNESDAY NOTES
~ I failed to mention that when I was in Penn Square with boards on a nice man took a LIP and asked me about Susan Cleaver. Susan, are you out there? She worked on LIP about the same time I did, but more importantly was featured in a five part series I did, Rape and Justice in Lancaster County. This series was one of the defining experiences in my life, and in an effort to see how much things have changed, I will reprint the series here shortly. Susan, if you read this please be in touch.
~ I am changing the above dedication on the Lancaster Lynching story to include Ruth Cooper who recently passed away. She was instrumental when I originally covered the story and several years ago when I told her I was working on it again, she said, Good. Its a story that needs to be told and a case(s) that needs to be solved.
THURSDAY NOTES
~ This email, "Across the Years," just in from Alice One of the women from my group says she will teach me how to paint and make jewelry, because I said at the group that I had never let myself be creative or expressive and she said, Oh, anybody can do it! She never forgot her abuse because her step-father started when she was old enough to feel in competition with her mother, so her issues are a bit different than mine, but its interesting to have such deep sharing with someone of my own daughters generation.
~ I forgot to mention that when I was in Lancaster last weekend I drove by the apartment I moved into in the 12th grade on South Lime Street. Its kind of a rite of passage I do every time Im in Lancaster. I became known, literally, as the black sheep in my family for doing it. Its ironic, to say the least, that I did it to escape my abusive father.
~ I received a lengthy e-mail from a Lancastrian who read the incest edition of LIP and describes himself as a former sex offender. I will publish the letter this weekend.
~ On a lighter note, it was my son who came up with this websites slogan, We find the news within the news and he has been clamoring for remuneration. I hope that this may fill the bill. Good job, son!
TUESDAY NOTES
~ When my cousin, June Holzinger, died in July of 2003, my mother sent the following e-mail to her children on July 22, 2003. Speaking of Junes mother, she said, (She spoke, incidentally, of Junes depression, and that if they had noticed they could have done something; I take it that suicide is the verdict.) My parents were notified by an attorney over three years ago that I was suffering from depression and post traumatic stress disorder. What have they been doing? Theyve been mailing 164 pounds of books to the children in Lesotho. See about half-way down under SHIPPED READING on this link http://www.calnqm.org/Lancaster/Newsletter505_January_2005.htm
What did they mail to me? You wont believe it. And they act like such nice people in public. Coming
~ Please note that work is being done on the Cortney Fry case and I will post an update in the next several days.
~ Just a mention regarding the recent drug busts. I find the police usually pull a big drug bust when they want to look good and/or distract the public from something else. There are lots of names of those rounded up and lots of pictures of drugs and money and the D.A. and the police in the papers and it all looks impressive and like we are getting our moneys worth. When in need of good PR pull a drug bust.
~ Speaking of the police, how in the world are they going to change that huge round plaque on the front of the police station when the mayor changes? Please let me know if you have a clue. The thing is massive and I felt it and it appears to be solid through. How are they going to take Smithgalls name off of there and add a new mayor?
~ I wanted to put artist Christiane David's address and website back on the front page (it's also in "Sunday Notes"). Her address is 142 N. Prince Street and her website is www.christianedavid.com.
NOTES
~ A headline on this website is incorrect. Actually, there are two killers on the loose. The murderer of Cortney Fry and the murderer of Heather Marie Nunn. There will be more on the Nunn case this weekend.
It has been ten days since the coroner identified Cortney Frys remains and not a word on the method of her death has been released. This is unsatisfactory. We pay the police to protect us. Releasing certain information will not compromise the investigation as District Attorney Donald Totaro is quoted as saying in the New Era. Rather, it might help bring information forward. The type of gun and whether she was killed where her body was found or brought there after the fact could be information that would provide tips and possible witnesses.
There are two murderers on the loose. If the Lancaster detectives can not solve these cases, then outside help needs to be brought in and the sooner the better.
~ Coming next week, The Krushinski Story Six Month Sizzling Scandal, reprinted from the Lancaster Independent Press and featuring attorneys J. Richard Gray, John Pyfer, Jr. and Samuel Mecum. Really and truly coming next week.
~ I was looking at an early story on Krushinski in the Lancaster Independent Press this morning and it was headlined, Intolerable Police Conduct. Have things changed? Who is holding the police accountable in Lancaster? Certainly not the Lancaster Newspapers.
~ LNP post some news. That's your field of expertise. The Talkbackers are bored. There's no news!!!!
