~ The promised articles in the box directly below this will come tomorrow. I honestly cant believe that an investigative grand jury that cost tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars has been called for an unheard of second time in less than four years and it has slipped beneath everyones radar. Thats mostly because the Lancaster Newspapers have purposely ignored it. Taxes are going to go up and nothing will result from it. I was just speaking with a friend who referred to the grand jury as a smokescreen to cover botched investigations. I would take that a step farther and say its also a smokescreen for cases they have no intention of solving. The DA thinks he can hide behind the grand jury on several cases and hes about to find out that he is wrong. The friend also compared the grand jury to the good old black box - you put things in and nothing comes out. It is simply astonishing that this farce is occurring. The promised articles and more will come tomorrow.
~ This website is taking a long time to load and hopefully that problem will be resolved tomorrow (mostly by cleaning up this front page). Please be patient. Thank you.
~ Charlie, No! The Sunday News found a group of 50 "city Latinos" who support Charlie "Cannonball" Smithgall in his bid for a third term in office. Apparently, his biggest draw is that he is a "down-to-earth guy" and "
has been very responsive to his Latino constituents, that he returns calls and comes through for them." Wow, if all it takes is returning phone calls I think I'll run for mayor. Becky, Si! So, where has J. Richard Gray, the Democratic candidate for mayor, been during this whole convention center mess? Luis Mendoza, Smithgall's Republican challenger, has been vocal in his opposition to the project and also says more focus needs to be placed on anti-crime programs.
~ Here's a surprise - Clyde is still drinking coffee (maybe Columbian coffee, as the above article makes a point, twice, of stating that Mendoza is a "native of Columbia.") Clyde's final words, as if anyone cares, regarding the convention center are, "But it can be done." We'll see about that, Mr. Editor. Mr. Editor, why don't you put down your coffee cup for a minute and do something about Smart?
~ You know, some things just make me shake my head in bewilderment, like Smart. Seriously, if anyone can make sense of this paragraph, please email me. Of course, "his beautiful little boy" is dragged into this mess for that old tug at the heart strings. "Me, I have a beautiful little boy who will grow up in the Darwinian society they're creating, where some will win and more will lose. And if he's among the latter, well, better he spend his time thinking about how the evil, brown terrorists are out to get us, or how the sinister liberals are surely mounting a fifth column to steal the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness that is already being whittled away by the very people who promise to uphold it." This man is the assistant news editor and he writes this crap week after week after week. I'd like to send a brown terrorist after him.
~ One housekeeping note, the email tab and contact email under this website are working - so you can send emails either to firstname.lastname@example.org or BeckyH209@aol.com. Thank you.
~ This is going to be a big week for LIP News. Coming later today - another letter from my brothers and sisters - this time to Lancaster Friends Meeting.
~ There is a big peace rally in Lancaster tomorrow. My thoughts will be with you. I will also be re-publishing "Peace Begins At Home" from the special incest edition of LIP. It ran here once but I never moved it "inside" as part of the incest series (yes, this website will be "redded up" soon so that the incest series, "Charlie's Promise," "Tribune Days" and Alice have their own sections, so to speak.)
~ Sunday is the 8th month anniversary of the death of Cortney Fry, and there will be an in-depth review of the case posted here.
~ Next week there will be a look at the investigating grand jury empanelled by Lancaster District Attorney, Donald Totaro. There will also be more family letters.
~ The 25th is the six month anniversary of this website (I don't believe it!) and there will be some special items and a look back.
~ Starting shortly thereafter, "Lancaster Lynching - 20 Years Later."
~ WOW! Thank you for reading LIP News. (The A's are back - more later.)
~ Congratulations to the Lancaster School Board for rejecting the Penn Square Partner's proposal last night. This morning's Intell quotes board member Veronica Urdaneta saying, "I don't think it's the best deal for the district. My responsibility as an elected official is to defend the children." Another board member, Pat Dixon is quoted as saying, "The people who in this city have power, we don't want them to take it out on our kids." Good for both of you. Yes, the board's function is education. The PSP used all of their vast resources to pressure the board into accepting this lousy deal at the last minute and used their own newspapers to repeatedly tout the proposal to the public in an unconscionable disregard of all journalistic standards. State Senator Gib Armstrong is quoted as saying of the board, "If they don't want to see the city prosper, there's nothing we can do about it." The state of the city is not the boards responsibility and to try and blame it on them is a disgrace. Look to the mayor and the PSP for the state of the city, Mr. Armstrong. Congratulations to the School Board of Lancaster for remembering their job is doing what is best for the students.
~ The Newspapers have been so busy pushing the TIF proposal, they have all but ignored other news. Where does the Glenn Wynn Robinson situation stand? He's the son of the Franklin and Marshall basketball coach who fired shots from an AK-47 near three hunters on his parent's property. One of the hunters called 911. Have the two other hunters been found? Is anyone going to be charged? I did ask an F&M insider about the situation and this was the response, "Most of the buzz here about the Robinson thing is dad should stay out of it, stop associating F&M with the case and firing an AK-47 in Lancaster is never a good idea." Wise words.
~ Where is the follow up on District Judge Richard Musser, who is being investigated by President Judge Louis J. Farina for violating the state constitution by living outside the district he was elected to serve? Where does this stand? There's been nothing in the papers since March 1, 2005. This was first exposed by Ron Harper on his website, www.5thestate.com.
~ I promised a story on the "Clergy abuse suits thrown out" from Tuesday's Philadelphia Inquirer and it will come this weekend.
~This Sunday is the eight month anniversary of the day Cortney Fry "disappeared" and was presumably killed and there will be a major article on the case here.
~ What do I think about Lancaster District Attorney, Donald Totaro, convening an investigative grand jury? I'm glad you asked. I'll have more on this story at a later date.
~ Finally, the story below, "Aren't We Lucky?" just gets me madder and madder. Give me eight hours and I will find you five gaming machines in the city of Lancaster and I guarantee I'll also come back with the name of one distributor. Who holds these public officials accountable?
~ Its Monday, and I am extremely cranky.
~ First, a housekeeping note. I am having a problem retrieving emails sent to this website. If you sent an email in the last couple of days, please resend it to BeckyH209@aol.com. Please also send future emails to this address for the time being. Thank you.
~ What is going on in this town? The School District of Lancaster is being strong-armed by the Lancaster Newspapers. The police have an absurd and costly, brand new building and yet cant solve the Heather Marie Nunn murder or any of the bank robberies (unless the perpetrator sleeps in his car in a hotel parking lot). Downtown is a vacant disaster area. The Lancaster County Detectives cant solve the murder of a 19 year-old mother of a two-week old baby and a District Justice is apparently still presiding over cases during an investigation to see if he is breaking the law. Not even to mention the whole Glenn Wynn Robinson thing. Where does that stand? What the hell is going on in this town?
~ Wow, Im cranky. But as you can see, I have good reason to be. More coming tomorrow
~ I was going to begin todays notes with a joke about Michael Jacksons pajama and slippers court outfit yesterday, but in light of the shootings in Atlanta I will refrain. What a terrible tragedy. I told a friend recently that if you ever lose faith in the American justice system you should go and observe a trial. Just tragic.
~ Well, as noted here previously under Breaking News the SDL refused my small business loan and also said no to the PSP proposal calling it inadequate and produced their own proposal. An excellent job ladies and gentlemen. Kudos also to City Councilman and Republican mayoral candidate, Luis Mendoza, who spoke strongly against the PSP proposal.
~ On the same topic, another entrant into the Blatant Conflict of Interest and Do I Have Any Scruples Award? to Jeff Hawkes, Your points are well taken; however
todays Intell. (And I dont care if it was a column.)
~ Another entrant for both Worst Headline and Worst Writing is Being Watched by Rebecca Ritzel in todays Intell.
~ Yes because there were so many entrants, there will be a best and worst list again this weekend. And there are three candidates up for best writer! No, Real Smart, you arent in there.
~ Speaking of Smart, I continue to delve into his past to find the root causes of his secret life as a gay hooker and open life as a bad columnist. Unfortunately, I had to have another visit with Dr. Fraud (hes still in very bad shape after his meetings with Clyde!) Coming soon
~ On a very serious and final note, an update on the Cortney Fry case is coming this weekend. The box above is at forty-six days. This is an absolute disgrace.
~ Please relax. Wacko Jacko has been found. There were reports he forgot to attach a nose this morning and had to turn around and go home to get one before court. No, apparently a different body part went bad, his back, and he is now on his way to the courtroom.
~ All kinds of stuff going on at Franklin & Marshall College. The basketball coachs son, the former swimming coach being hunted by the Feds, and the SAT scores or lack thereof in the article in this mornings Intell. Wow, too much! Well have to do a round-up this weekend. Does money alone earn one the title of Diplomat?
~ Another entrant for Worst Headline of the Week, County of Babel from this mornings Intell. I dont care what the pun is on, this is simply a dreadful headline and they keep doing it to the same reporter over and over (think alligator and gator). The Intell is far and away the front runner in the awful headline category.
~ I wanted you to read it here first. I am going to the Board of the School District of Lancaster and asking for a Small Business Loan. Yes, I am. If they loan me $1,000,000 at no interest for twenty years, I will promise to pay it back plus $100,000 for their being so nice when I am hugely successful after those twenty years. I want to thank them in advance for their incredible business sense and ability to think outside of the box. Thanks so much. (P.S. Of course I wont be paying taxes for those twenty years, either. Thanks again.)
~ Now, as reported here as Breaking News, the Barnstormers new mascot is named Cylo and he has, as was also reported, major bovine features. Some Talkbackers noticed an uncanny resemblance. Buck, speaking for everyone who was outraged, posted this angry letter to that cocky, obese and misbehaving Philly Phanatic:
Cmon man! Just come clean. That little trip to the country
yeah, you remember. A little more than a little R&R in the countryside. Sure, you said you loved her. You said youd call. Well, you didnt, did you man? A hit and run on the farm. And that sweet cow loved you man! You said she was the only one for you. You never called man. She had to raise that red mutant mascot bovine half breed all by herself. She was ostracized from the farm animal community. Left to raise that little bastard bovine mascot all on her own. Well, she did just fine on her own. Sure, Cylo was teased and never allowed to play in any barnyard games, but, he stayed strong man. Look at him now. Mascot for his own bush league team. I hope youre proud of yourself. You make me sick.
Yeah, take that Phanatic.
~ I promised a story on Cortney Fry this weekend and realized I did not have the time to do it properly so it will be coming one day this week. I have an unconfirmed report that her boyfriend, Micah Stewart, is now out of jail on bond. I have no problem with his bail amount being lowered. They were trumped up charges and he has to be treated the same as anyone else who was arrested under the same circumstances. What detective work are the Lancaster County Detectives doing in this case? They are paid by us to protect us and yet no one is holding them accountable. The story will come this week.
~ A friend reminded me this morning that there has been serious corruption in Lancaster since the Krushinski saga and that was 25 years ago. Very scary stuff.
~ Speaking of Krushinski, in the end, as cases were falling apart and the mainstream press and police were turning against him, he purposely caused a mistrial in a case. That pretty much brought everything to an abrupt end. Unhappy with the way he was being treated, he began to tell people he would rat on the police. He pretty much disappeared from the radar after that. Of course, he would show up again every so often several years later with some outlandish feat or crime that would put him in the headlines again. Coming
~ An inquiring mind wanted to know if I interacted with my sister at the Superior Court hearing on Wednesday. Well, she came over at the end as nice as could be and said, Hi, Becky. How are you? I told her I had no interest in speaking to her at that time and left. And that, as they say, was that. The lengths a family will go to to preserve their reputation. (I grew up with the expression, The good Holzinger name) is coming.
