SUNDAY NOTES
~ The above box regarding Cortney Fry is approaching 100 days. I just keep changing it and changing it and changing it. I spoke to Dennis Dirkmaat, a forensic science professor at Mercyhurst College in Erie by phone this morning. He and another professor have been analyzing Frys remains. He said her remains would be released early this week along with their report which will be given to the detectives in the case. There is going to be much more on the Fry case here this week.
~ In a follow-up regarding my call to Franklin & Marshall College regarding the Charles H. Holzinger Anthropology Award, I have not had my phone calls returned. Perhaps these educated and wise individuals think they can ignore me and I will go away. Thats not going to happen. I will place a call tomorrow morning and report my results here.
~ Yesterday I posted a piece, which is below, on April Koppenhavers lawsuit against the Redevelopment Authority over their purchase of the Watt & Shand building from the Penn Square Partners. I incorrectly listed the court date as May 11. The correct date for oral arguments in the case is Tuesday, May 10, in the courtroom of Judge Joseph C. Madenspacher. I have corrected the story below and please mark your calendars to plan to attend if you can.
~ In his insipid and stupid column, Dave Hennigan in todays Sunday News reports that Clyde has been wounded over the war of words in the hotel/convention center controversy. Clyde reports that, Ive been to two public meeting this week, city council and the county commissioners, and the level of discourse was scraping the floor, Mr. Editor. I dont think it can get much lower. Actually, Mr. Editor, I think its your employer and their partners whose conduct can not get much lower. They and you are a disgrace.
~ I would like to thank Kate for the photo of Luis Mendoza and Barry Winterstein which is below.
~ MORE ON THE LANCASTER LYNCHING COMING THIS WEEK.
LAWSUIT
- April Koppenhaver & Lancaster First -
COURT DATE MAY 10
On Friday, April 8th, April Koppenhaver filed a petition seeking an injunction that would halt the City Redevelopment Authority from purchasing the Watt & Shand building. Her lawsuit contents the Redevelopment Authority is squandering public funds. The lawsuit states that the authority plans to buy the building from the Penn Square Partners for $6.8 million when the Partners bought the building for $1.25 million in 1998. The lawsuit says the purchase is unsupportable by any type of business judgment rule.
The trial will begin Wednesday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Joseph C. Madenspacher.
Koppenhaver has organized a group opposed to the hotel/convention center project called Lancaster First. Their website is www.lancasterfirst.org.
LIP News would like to do its part to help find the lost nuclear gauge. The finder of the gauge receives a handmade, laminated LIP press credential that reads, Dont give me your Lip. One note, do not tamper with the device as it could expose you to radiation. The link to the article is here.
WEDNESDAY NOTES
WHERES THE MONEY?
~ According to the New Era on April 26, 2005, the Convention Center Authority collected $14,489,606 from the hotel tax from January 1 of 2000 through December 31 of 2004. Wheres the money? According to the article, $5 million went to defend the law suit brought by 11 local hoteliers. Wheres a breakdown of that cost and the law firms that received $5 million dollars? They list other major expenses as $1.7 million for project development. What does that mean? Wheres the breakdown and who received the money? Another cost is $2 million for architectural drawings. I thought the PSP spent $3 million doing that and apparently their plans didnt even include electrical or air conditioning specifications. Who got the $2 million and wheres the breakdown of that cost? Then theres $1.5 million for advisory fees. What does that mean? Wheres the breakdown and who got the money? WHERES THE MONEY?
~ I spoke with City Councilman and Republican mayoral candidate Luis Mendoza by phone yesterday afternoon. He was the only council member to vote against reopening property tax agreements with the School District of Lancaster lasr night and he has been opposed to the hotel/convention center project from the beginning. In order to due him justice, I will run my interview with him this weekend.
~ I have not yet spoken with Keith Orrs of the Presidents office at Franklin and Marshall College regarding the Charles H. Holzinger Anthropology Award. An article in this mornings Intell said tuition and room and board for F&M will be an outrageous $40,540 next year. The article also said that President, John Fry, compared F&M with 20 other top-tier liberal arts schools. If Mr. Fry would like to know why a private, top-tier liberal arts college should not be giving an award in the name of an incest perpetrator, Ill be happy to list the reasons here. I will keep you updated.
~ I hope to have an interview with Democratic mayoral candidate, J. Richard Gray shortly.
~ Coming tomorrow, another article in the Lancaster Lynching series.
~ Oh, for heavens sake, I see theres an email from Dr. Fraud saying he found the lost nuclear gauge. I thought I told him not to email me again. More tomorrow
