SUNDAY NOTES (2-13-2005)

~ Well, I see J. Richard Gray has made his run for mayor official. The Sunday News quotes him as saying of the campaign, "I hope we don't just engage in character assassination." He must be kidding. Why not, Rick? Don't kill our fun.  What does the "J" stand for anyway?
~ Speaking of the Sunday News, I'm taking mine back and saying I want my $1.75 returned.  I was not satisfied. There was no news.
~ Speaking of the Sunday News, where was Real Smart? Did he know I was in town? How could he disappoint me this way? Didn't any women call him this week?
~ For those of you who have never seen a woman wear two boards, well, I did it yesterday downtown. There isn't anything I won't do. I would like to thank the nice man in Penn Square  who helped me get untangled, the mailman who came and asked me for a LIP, the nice woman at the Library, the nice woman who works for Lancaster Newspapers (I can't say any more - she might get in trouble) and all of the other extremely nice people I met.
~ I always get a good chuckle when the man at the entrance to "Steinman Park" is reading a LIP.   He was yesterday. Hey, LNP, the paper just fell out of my hands. Not my fault. You might want to see what he's reading today. My hands are slippery.
~ Maybe that guy is Clyde! I'll have to ask him. I'm hunting for Clyde. Please tell him if you see him.
~ Several political types have been quoted recently saying things like, "Lancaster is on the verge of greatness." As a friend pointed out, Lancaster has been on the verge of greatness since the day it was founded - it just hasn't made it yet.
~ You must see Christiane David's artwork at 142 N. Prince Street. It is just gorgeous and there     are items ranging from $5.00 to the thousands. I happened in by chance and was transfixed. I'm also poorer now. Her website is www.christianedavid.com.  I haven't been there yet but  I intend to go.
~ Finally, for now, I would like to apologize for my use of the word "hoot" twice this week. I have no excuse.  It will not happen again (I hope).

FRIDAY NOTES (2-11-2005)

~ Because of the drug busts and the Cortney Fry case the promised Krushinski story will be posted next week.  This story features J. Richard Gray, running for Mayor, and Samuel Mecum, running for Judge.  (Hey, Rick, I keep checking my mailbox but my invitation to the Mayoral Inauguration Ball has not come.  What’s up with that?  I have my dress and everything.)

~ So, by chance, I’m on google looking up the Lancaster Independent Press and I find a name I recognize who has a blog (I hate that word).  I emailed him looking for help with my website layout and I get this in return.

“Yes, we met once or twice during my LIP days.  I don’t do web design and it would appear that should be your first priority.  I have been a “web denizen” for over ten years now and perhaps not a professional but a pretty good judge of what attracts a reader or not.  Your site isn’t easy by a long shot and needs much streamlining, that’s in my opinion of course.  It appears to be rather long on harangue and very short on well thought out concise opinion.  I certainly hope that I am not offending you with this, but I’m on a few web sites and have a pretty good feel for the product.”

These former LIP people are a hoot!  Now, I’ve been meaning to talk about my front page for a while and ask people to be patient.  I’ll explain the whole, long, drawn out situation shortly.  Yes, it does need to be streamlined and when I have time I will “clean-up” this front page.  Now, “web denizen,” I read a very small part of one of your pieces (it’s all I could handle) and I feel that you may be rather long on harangue and very short on well thought out concise opinion.  (And be very glad you caught me on one of my less cranky days.)

~ I made myself nice, yellow, laminated press passes.  My son said, “You can’t do that.”  I said, “Of course I can.  How do you think the newspapers get their press passes?”  “I see,” he said, “but why do you need more than one?”  Ah, grasshopper, I have taught you well but you still have much to learn!

THURSDAY NOTES(2-10-2005)

~ I called the District Attorney’s office at 9:16 this morning and was told Donald Totaro was not yet in.  I said I would call back.  I called back at 10:30.  I was told that Mr. Totaro was not available to come to the phone but that I should speak to Michael Landis, the Chief County Detective.  I left a message as he was not available.  He called me back at 11:00.  I will post his comments tomorrow, however, I was not satisfied and the above box will remain.  I will decide on contacting outside authorities after I attempt to contact family members for their input on the investigation and I will, of course, keep you informed.

~ On a lighter note, and in an “only in America” moment, I see that the Republican mayoral primary is going to be a hoot.  “He just isn’t honest,”  city councilman Luis Mendoza is quoted as saying in today’s Intell referring to incumbent Charlie Smithgall.  Smithgall is quoted saying of Mendoza, “He does not tell the truth.”   Does it get any better than this?  And this is only day one!!!

~ In “Monday’s Notes,” I said I was in Lancaster Friday and stopped by the Lancaster Newspaper’s lobby.  Which I did and I bought all the papers for the preceding week (what a waste of over $6.00).  I finally pulled them out last night and was shocked by the look of the New Era.  Is it aimed at third graders?  My son said, and this is a word for word quote, “They shouldn’t be allowed to make papers that bad.”  Sadly, son, apparently they are.

~ I see that I have a reader in the United Kingdom.  Well, cheerio and all of that.  I think I might know who it is.  I’m thinking he might be a Libra and if so – thank you for reading.  I also just picked up hits by the “U.S. Government” according to my latest website traffic report and I don’t know if I’m rattled or pleased.   Ah, heck, pleased of course.

WEDNESDAY NOTES (2-9-2005)

~ As noted above, I left a  message requesting a return call from Lancaster District Attorney Donald Totaro at 9:16 this morning.  He has not returned my call.  His number is:  (717) 299-8100.  Please see the Tuesday notes below regarding the District Attorney and the box above counting the days since the autopsy.

~ According to www.freewebs.com/cortneyfry , there is a memorial service for Cortney Fry on Sunday, February 13th from 2-5 p.m. at the Columbia Presbyterian Church, 360 Locust Street in Columbia.

~ Where are the follow-ups to this story in the Lancaster Newspapers?  Why aren’t they reporting this story?  Why haven’t they requested an autopsy report?  Why doesn’t the public know if she was killed where her body was found or brought there after the fact?  Why doesn’t the public know if bullets were recovered?  Why doesn’t the public know what accelerant was used to burn her body?  Why doesn’t the public know if Micah Stewart is still in prison on unrelated charges? This is an outrage by both the police and the Lancaster Newspapers.

~ “Krushinski – ‘Intolerable Police Conduct’" is posted here.

TUESDAY NOTES(2-8-2005)

~ The above box will stay there and be updated daily until someone is charged with the murder of Cortney Fry.  I have had a call in to Lancaster District Attorney Donald Totaro for 24 hours and he has not returned it.  I have left two messages.  Mr. Totaro knows who I am, because I met with him for close to an hour in the District Attorney’s office after publishing a special edition of the Lancaster Independent Press in September of 2001 titled, “Lancaster Lynching – Twenty Years Later.”

~ If the above box gets to “twenty” days, I will publish the phone number and address for the State Attorney General and ask him to get involved.  I will ask all of my readers to do the same.  There is a killer on the loose and there has been for almost seven months.  They have released no autopsy information and no status on the investigation.  WE PAY THE POLICE TO PROTECT US.  Mr. Totaro, I am waiting for your call and will follow up with a daily call to you if you do not return my call.

~ I did call Lancaster Detective Nathan Nickel back yesterday after he hung up on me (see “Heather Marie Nunn” below.)  I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt in case, gasp, he had never heard of LIP News.  He was polite.  I took him to this site while we were on the phone and he did indicate that his normal procedure is to call the press if he has any information and the press apparently doesn’t call him.  Times they are a changing, Mr. Nickel.  I will be back in touch to get an update on another killer who has been on the loose for over three months.

~ On a lighter note, the Lancaster Online Talkback boards are so far unanimous on two items – the convention center is a dreadful, unworkable idea and Mayor Charlie “Cannonball” Smithgall is in deep trouble in the next election.

~  Do not be afraid of the Talkback boards.  They are fun and educational!  This weekend I will walk you through them step by step.  (Did I tell you I was “banned?”)

~  http://www.lancasteronline.com/pages/news/1235  Follow this link to get to today’s article involving the conviction of defrocked Catholic priest Paul Shanley.  This was a case based on repressed memory and I am going to discuss repressed memory and the Dalrymple v. Brown case that is the precedent in Pennsylvania regarding repressed memory and the courts on this website shortly.  The case was quoted about 30 times in my parent’s “Brief of Appellees” filed in the Superior Court of Pennsylvania and available on this website.

~ Coming tomorrow, “Krushinski – ‘Intolerable Police Conduct’” from the Lancaster Independent Press of January 1979.

~  Coming Friday, “The Krushinski Story – Six Month Simmering Scandal” reprinted from the May 3-10, 1979 issue of the Lancaster Independent Press  and featuring attorneys J. Richard Gray, John Pyfer, Jr. and Samuel Mecum.

MONDAY NOTES (2-7-2005)

~ I was in Lancaster briefly on Friday and I was shocked at the number of vacant storefronts in the two blocks of King Street just off either side of Penn Square.  It looks abandoned.  What does the mayor have to say about this?  They’re going to bring in a convention center?  Nonsense.  What happened to the community college idea.  They need to get people downtown, on a regular, consistent basis.

~ Well, I went into the lobby of the Lancaster Newspapers while in town.  It’s like a fortress.  There is a massive security door you have to put a card in to get through the lobby area.  I remember when you just walked in and took the elevator to the newsroom.  Maybe that’s why they are so out of touch with what is going on.

~ Speaking of out of touch, I see that fasnachts are the big news of the day.  “Fifty-five percent of the fasnachts are glazed.”  Investigative reporting at its best. Now there’s some news you can sink your teeth into.
