OUTRAGE PUBLIC ENDANGERED
~ ELEVEN ARMED ROBBERIES ~
Terrible Police Work
Criminally sloppy police work left the public endangered for almost four months. According to the WGAL website, Richard Sutton, the suspect in twelve robberies, was incarcerated when he confessed, He was already incarcerated on another charge when information was given to the public. We were asking for help in solving some of these robberies. And with some citizen input it helped corroborate some evidence and then detectives were able to interview him and when they did, he then spoke about what he did and it was due to a drug addiction, Sgt. Bill Gleason said.
The information given to the public was pictures of the robber taken by security cameras according to the article, Man being charged in dozen robberies in the New Era on March 28, 2005. Quoting from the article,
Burkhart [City police Detective John Burkhart] explained, Sutton flew under the radar and wasnt connected to the robberies until pictures of the suspect, taken by various security cameras, were broadcast through the media. Then, Burkhart said, people made the connection and called police, identifying Sutton as a suspect.
Why werent these pictures released to the media months ago? Its the first thing most police departments do. Thats why the cameras are there in the first place.
During the first holdup the robber cut a female clerks face with a knife. This is an extremely dangerous and violent person. The public was put at risk, possibly needlessly, through eight gunpoint robberies, three knifepoint robberies and a strong-arm robbery. This is outrageously bad police work and someone needs to come in and audit the department.
Its also irresponsible and deceptive reporting by Janet Kelley who in the New Era article never mentions that the suspect was already in prison on another charge when he confessed.
This story also backs up my contention that pictures of the gloves used by the killer of Heather Marie Nunn be released to the public. The assumption would be (since the police havent revealed the information) that these would be tight, form fitting gloves because the killer pulled a trigger while wearing them. Someone might recognize them in the same way people recognized the pictures of the robber. Why hasnt this information been released? What are the police doing?
Bring in outside help to solve the Heather Marie Nunn and Cortney Fry murders. There are two killers on the loose and the police dont know what they are doing.
